What is Depression?

According to the American Psychiatric Association, depression (major depressive disorder) is defined as ‘a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act’. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once found enjoyable. It can lead to a person’s inability to function properly, as they once did.
