Couples Counseling

What Does a Couples Therapist Do?

Couples go through stages in their relationship in which some days are more challenging than others and may need an impartial guide to help them navigate these challenges. A couples therapist helps two people in a romantic relationship resolve conflicts, address underlying issues, gain insight into each other, and improve their relationship.

Who Should Seek Couples Counseling?

When issues arise that needs to be addressed or when we feel disconnected from our partner, we may need to learn some additional tools to resolve the issue and get back in touch with our partner.

If you are facing a challenge in your relationship or feel communication has broken down, then know that you are not alone. Most partnerships will experience cycles of growth, challenging situations, and the ebbs and flows of connection. The goal of couples counseling is to assist couples in a committed relationship grow, guide them down a path towards a happy, healthy relationship, and to help them meet their relationship goals.

What Happens During a Couples Therapy Session?

During our first session together, we will spend a little time getting to know each other and discuss the issues and/or concerns the couple would like to resolve.  Then we will collaborate on a longer-term plan that works for all parties involved.

In our sessions, honest and respectful exchanges will allow the partnership to get real with each other. The couple will learn to identify, express, and receive emotions/feedback/feelings and needs.

In terms of session frequency, most couples meet me at least twice monthly, but recommendations will vary based on the severity and urgency of the issues being addressed.
